A community-based Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) screening program was held at Pussellawa Divisional Hospital Type A on 25 August 2026, under the Ministry of Health, Central Province, and organized by the Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS) Office, Kandy.
Nearly 100 participants with existing NCD conditions, including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidaemia, and cardiovascular diseases, participated in the program. The initiative aimed to support ongoing health assessment, promote early identification of potential complications, and strengthen awareness regarding NCD management and prevention.
The Center for Research actively supported the program through laboratory and community-based health activities. As part of the field program, participants provided blood and urine samples for health assessment.
In addition to the screening activities, the Center for Research team conducted a health education session for the participants. The session emphasized the importance of regular health monitoring, adherence to recommended treatment and follow-up, healthy lifestyle practices, and the prevention of complications associated with NCDs.
The program provided an important platform for healthcare professionals and researchers to engage directly with individuals living with chronic diseases and to promote a more comprehensive approach to NCD care. The active participation of the community also highlighted the importance of bringing preventive and supportive health services closer to the people.
The successful collaboration between the Ministry of Health, RDHS Office Kandy, Pussellawa Divisional Hospital Type A, and the Center for Research demonstrates the value of integrating research expertise with community-based healthcare initiatives.
