Advancing CKDu Research Through Collaborative Partnership

On 31 July 2026, the Center for Research, Nephrology and Transplant Unit, National Hospital Kandy, held a collaborative meeting with the research team from the University of Moratuwa to discuss future research initiatives on chronic kidney disease of Unknown Etiology (CKDu).
The meeting was led by Dr. Nishantha Nanayakkara and Dr. Janaka Wijayakulasooriya from the Center for Research, together with Dr. Thanuja D. Ambegoda. During the visit, Dr. Thanuja also introduced the team to Prof. Shantha Fernando, who joined the discussion, reflecting the shared commitment of both institutions to fostering collaborative research.
The discussion focused on identifying opportunities for collaborative research by integrating clinical expertise with engineering and computer science to address the challenges of CKDu. The meeting strengthened academic partnerships and established a foundation for future joint research initiatives aimed at improving the understanding and management of CKDu in Sri Lanka.
