About Us

Our Story

The Centre for Research at the National Hospital Kandy is a leading institution committed to advancing medical science and improving patient care through rigorous research. Our primary focus is on Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Aetiology (CKDu), a significant health concern in Sri Lanka’s dry zone. Considering various biological and environmental factors in our studies, we recognize the importance of a multidisciplinary approach.

Our collaborative efforts extend internationally. We partner with esteemed institutions and researchers from the United States, Germany, Singapore, and the University of Peradeniya. These partnerships facilitate cutting-edge research and the development of practical solutions to combat CKDu.

Our funding is managed by the Kidney Protection Society, National Hospital Kandy, ensuring transparency and accountability in all our initiatives. Beyond research, we are dedicated to promoting scientific awareness among school students. Our “Be The Change” Scientific Report Writing Competition encourages young minds to engage in scientific inquiry and develop research skills.
